Exploring the world of quantum entanglement!
So, what is entanglement?
Entanglement, is a phenomenon where two particles, usually two photons are in contact with each other [not physically, I would rather say it as telepathically]. This is relationship between their properties. This refers to states such as their momentum, position, etc.
It is a type of relationship where if you know a property of one particle, you are also provided with the property of the other particle, regardless of the distance between them [even if they are light years apart].
For example, consider two coins. Basically, a coin has two faces, a head and a tail. Consider the coins are entangled. Now, we toss coin ‘A’ and if the outcome is heads, and now if you toss coin ‘B’, the outcome would be a 100% tails.
Consider a photon with spin up, then the other photon, which is it’s twin partner would be of spin down. This is entanglement.
Everything seems alright till here, but the question arises now.
The birth of a paradox
Einstein was a person who did not agree with how the information was transmitted along a long distance. He called entanglement as spooky action at a distance.
This led to the birth of a new paradox. It was called the EPR paradox [or the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen Paradox]. How does particle B receive the information about particle A’s state? According to the Copenhagen interpretation, all particles are in an uncertain state until and unless measured. So, both the photons are in an uncertain sate. But, when we measure the state of particle A, the state of particle b also turns certain. How could this be possible as they are light years far and the information is delivered in no time. So we arrive at a conclusion that the information has been delivered at extreme speed more than even the speed of light! But this conclusion turns out to be a conflict to Einstein.
What is non-locality?
Non-locality refers to when particles interact with each other and are dependent on each other for their quantum state. this usually happens when the particles are entangled.
